Hi guys! Today I’m going to be doing a review of the newly released CoverGirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir foundation. I honestly think this may be the first CoverGirl product that I have had on my blog/ owned in a while as I usually don’t buy CoverGirl products. I’m not sure why, as I’ve heard that the mascaras are great as well as other products, but I have never been too intrigued to try them out. But, I was very interested in this foundation as it’s supposed to be full coverage, have good skin loving ingredients, and all at a drugstore price.
Just for some basics on this foundation; it retails for around 12 or 13 dollars (I got mine for $12.99). This foundation is pretty unique as it contains vitamins E, B3, and B5 and sunscreen. I'm not sure about you, but if a foundation claims that it will help my skin (especially as my skin is pretty crazy) I will be so much more interested in trying it out! But, I wanted to know what these vitamins will actually do for the skin as sometimes advertising for products will advertise an ingredient in a product that really doesn't help the skin at all. Vitamin E is great for anti-ageing and for keeping the skin looking youthful. B3 is similar due to it's anti-aging properties but it is also good to use to help fade discoloration in the skin. While B5 is a vitamin that helps keep the skin moisturized. So overall I'm pretty impressed by the vitamins that are added in this foundation as they should help fight very common skin concerns; anti-aging, discoloration, and dry skin. In addition to the sunscreen, your skin is very well protected and this is such a good foundation to wear as summer starts. So far (over the month or so that I have been using this foundation) I haven't had any issues with it clogging my skin, drying it out, or causing any redness.
The packaging of this product is what drew me in as it’s so pretty! It has a white and gold pump and is in a square bottle. It has one ounce of product, which is pretty typical for foundation, and the bottle is glass. I really like this packaging and the pump is such a nice feature! I will say that I’ve seen reviews where the clear plastic top that goes on to cover the pump was broken. I actually bought two (each from different stores) and both of mine weren’t broken. But, I do feel like the plastic lid is pretty flimsy so that could be the biggest flaw. The shade range is pretty good at 14 shades (although I do hope they will add some more on the lighter and darker spectrum as it seems those may be lacking) which are mainly based in the light-to-medium spectrum.
I picked up shade 720 first as during the summer months I will be less fair and will usually use a darker foundation to match the tan I have. But this foundation does oxidize darker so due to this it became too dark to wear with a tan for me. So, I picked up 710 which works perfectly as it oxidizes for my skin tone. I really like the finish as it’s a very natural and flattering on the skin. It is a demi-matte foundation that has a somewhat dewy finish that worked well with my dry skin. As it’s demi-matte it also doesn’t become oily on me, but if you have very oily skin I’m not sure if this would be matte enough for you.
I love how this foundation looks on my skin as it covers my acne as well. I don’t have a large amount of acne but I have some larger bumps so using a full coverage foundation (that doesn’t make my skin look flat and lifeless) is such a plus. I would recommend this foundation either to wear on its own or as a foundation to mix with others. I have been loving taking a pump of the darker shade (720) and mixing it with some of my other foundations so the coverage is increased and I get a tanner look to my skin. Overall, I really love this foundation and I think I will need to keep trying other CoverGirl products as this has become one of my new favorites.
Thanks for reading! Let me know if you have tried out this foundation and what you think about it?
